Wieliczka Salt Mine Tickets
The gate ticket is 169 PLN for every visitor with no discounts, and you cannot go in without a guide. Which Kraków tours include that ticket, which add it on arrival, and why the cheapest listing is rarely the cheapest visit.
Wieliczka’s ticketing confuses people for two reasons, and both are worth knowing before you book anything.
Fact one: there is no unguided ticket
The mine is explicit — the tour always takes place under the supervision of a guide. You cannot buy an entry ticket and walk the route yourself. Every visitor joins a timed language group, and groups run in Polish, English, German, French, Italian, Russian, Spanish and Ukrainian. So “ticket” here always means “place on a guided tour”.
Fact two: the gate price is 169 PLN, flat
An operator that sells this tour daily and collects the money on arrival puts it in writing: “The official museum ticket price is 169 PLN for all visitors. No discounts are available for children, seniors, or students through this tour.”
You will also see the mine advertise the Tourist Route “from 131 PLN”. Both are true: the lower figure is the Polish-language rate, and foreign-language groups pay more. The number that matters for an English-speaking visitor is the one you will be asked for at the desk.
Where the money actually goes
This is the part that catches people out:
- The cheapest listing — about $21.75, and 11,314 visitors rate it 4.5 — is a transport product. Its exclusions read: “Entrance fees (paid on site) — 169 PLN.” You pay again at the door.
- The most-booked listing — about $32.23, 12,944 visitors at 4.6 — includes the entry ticket and skip-the-line entry.
Roughly ten dollars separates the headline prices; about 169 PLN separates the real ones.

Buying direct instead
You can buy from the mine’s own ticket office at wieliczka-saltmine.com, and in low season with flexible dates that is perfectly sensible. Two things to weigh: English-language slots are finite and sell out in peak months, and you still have to get yourself twenty kilometres out of Kraków and back. The bundled tours exist because they solve both at once — and, as above, frequently for less than the gate price.
The small extras
- Photo permit — one operator lists 10 PLN payable on the spot for photography inside the mine.
- Luggage — hand-size only. Operators quote limits from 30 × 20 × 10 cm up to 35 × 20 × 20 cm; anything larger stays on the bus.
- Food and drink — excluded from every tour on this page; there is a restaurant underground.
