Wieliczka Salt Mine Opening Hours
The Tourist Route runs 08:00–18:00 and the Miners' Route 09:00–17:00. Closed 1 January, Easter Sunday, 24 and 25 December — plus 1 November per one operator. Why the first slot is the one to take.

English-language departures are frequent through the middle of the day and thinner at the very start and end. Because every visit is a guided group, the practical question is not “is it open” but “is there a group in my language with space on it” — which is why booking ahead matters more here than at most attractions.
Closed days
The mine closes on:
- 1 January
- Easter Sunday
- 24 and 25 December
At least one operator additionally lists 1 November (All Saints’ Day) among its unavailable dates, so treat that as closed too when planning.
The best time to go
The first slot of the day. Wieliczka receives well over a million visitors a year, and the middle of the day between June and September is genuinely busy — groups stack up in the narrower galleries and the chapel is at its least atmospheric when it is full. An 08:00 or 09:00 tour is a different, quieter visit, and it still leaves the rest of your day in Kraków intact.
Season barely matters underground. The temperature is the same mid-teens in January as in July, so the only seasonal variable is how many other people are down there with you — which argues for the shoulder months of April, May, September and October, or for winter, when the mine is at its emptiest.
Allow more time than the tour states. Two to three hours underground, plus an hour each way from Kraków, plus queueing to enter. A “half-day tour” is a genuine half day.
