Auschwitz and Wieliczka in One Day

The most-booked Kraków combination puts Auschwitz-Birkenau and the salt mine in a single day, from about $52. It works logistically. Whether it works emotionally is a different question — answered honestly.

Updated August 2026

It is the most-booked Kraków combination there is: Auschwitz-Birkenau and the Salt Mine in one guided day — 4.7 from 10,026 verified visitors, from about $52.37, with both entry tickets and both guided tours included. Several operators run the same pairing.

Logistically, it works

Pickup is from your hotel or a Kraków meeting point, transport is by air-conditioned coach, and both sites are covered with guides and tickets arranged. Oświęcim is about 70 km west of Kraków; Wieliczka is 20 km east. The day is long but the organisation is routine and well practised.

Be ready for the start time. Pickups typically run between 05:00 and 10:00, and the exact time is confirmed only the day before by the operator. The Auschwitz-Birkenau portion also runs to the memorial’s own visitor-service schedule — the tour company has no control over its pace or duration.

Bring ID matching your booking. The memorial requires every participant’s full name and contact details at booking, and entry can be refused if the name on your booking does not match your identification.

Emotionally, think about it

This is the part the listings will not tell you. Auschwitz-Birkenau is not a sightseeing stop. Most visitors find it the most affecting few hours of any trip to Poland, and it asks something of you. Going straight from the memorial to a cheerful underground salt cathedral — with the guide’s jokes, the group photographs, the gift shop — produces a tonal whiplash that a lot of people describe as jarring, and some regret.

Do it in one day if: your time in Kraków is genuinely short, and you would otherwise miss one of them.

Split them if you can. Give the memorial its own day and its own quiet evening afterwards, and do Wieliczka as a relaxed half-day another morning — the standard tour is about $32 with the ticket included, and the difference in cost between combining and splitting is small.

If you do split them

Wieliczka works well as a morning: an early slot, back in Kraków for lunch, afternoon free. The Kraków day-trip field is broad — the city itself repays a slow day too, including from the water on the Vistula.
