The gate ticket is 169 PLN for every visitor — there is no child, student or senior discount — and the mine's advertised "from 131 PLN" is the lower Polish-language rate rather than the English-language group price. On the booking platform, tours that include that ticket start from about $32, while the cheapest transport-only tours start from about $22 and then add the 169 PLN at the door. No. The mine states that the tour always takes place under the supervision of a guide — there is no self-guided ticket and no independent wandering. Every visitor joins a language group, and groups run in Polish, English, German, French, Italian, Russian, Spanish and Ukrainian. What you are choosing between is not guided versus unguided, but which package the guided visit comes in: ticket only, ticket plus transfer from Kraków, or full door-to-door hotel pickup. Booking a tour from Kraków simply bundles the guide, the ticket and the transport into one price.

Two to three hours underground for the Tourist Route, covering about 3.5 kilometres — plus roughly an hour each way if you are travelling from Kraków. Allow four to five hours door to door on a standard tour from the city, and a full day (often 10+ hours) if you combine it with Auschwitz-Birkenau. The route is walked at the guide's pace with the group, so it does not compress; toilets are positioned at roughly the 40- and 90-minute marks along the way.

About 800 steps in total, of which roughly 380 come at the very start as you descend the Daniłowicz shaft — the mine says 380, operators commonly say 350. The descent is the demanding part and it is entirely downward; you do not climb back out, because a lift brings you to the surface at the end. The Tourist Route runs 08:00–18:00 and the Miners' Route 09:00–17:00, with the mine closed on 1 January, Easter Sunday, and 24 and 25 December — at least one operator also lists 1 November as unavailable. English-language departures are frequent through the middle of the day and thinner early and late. The first slots are the quietest: Wieliczka takes well over a million visitors a year and the middle of the day in July and August is genuinely crowded, so an early tour is worth the alarm.
